March is Music In Our Schools Month!

2/26/2019

"What is Music In Our Schools Month® (MIOSM™)?

For over 30 years, March has been officially designated by the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) for the observance of Music In Our Schools Month® (MIOSM™), the time of year when music education becomes the focus of schools across the nation.

The purpose of MIOSM is to raise awareness of the importance of music education for all children – and to remind citizens that school is where all children should have access to music. MIOSM is an opportunity for music teachers to bring their music programs to the attention of the school and the community, and to display the benefits that school music brings to students of all ages.

MIOSM and the events surrounding it are the ideal opportunities for increasing awareness of the benefits of high quality music education programs in our nation’s schools. NAfME hopes that teachers, students, and music supporters alike will find ways to join in on the celebration through creative activities and advocacy. Learn more about how NAfME works to support music education."

Frequently Asked Questions about the RHS Band Program

2/21/2019

Attention 8th Grade Band Families:

Randolph High School class sign-ups are happening in the very near future, and the RHS Band Class as a LOT to offer students.  I've created a "Frequently Asked Questions About Signing Up for RHS Band Class".  Please check out the RHS Band FAQ at this link or see the bottom of this post.

The Randolph High School Band program is one of the strongest in the state of New Jersey, and involvement in music is good for students for SO many reasons.  Here’s scientific proof (and I’ve got way more where this came from!):

  • Musicians spot mistakes more quickly and more accurately than non-musicians.
  • Music lessons spur emotional and behavioral growth in children, new study says.
  • What parents need to know about children's brains on music.

Questions about the RHS Band Program?
As I mentioned in the FAQ (see below!), if you have any questions about the band class at RHS, please feel free to ask myself (tdavidson@rtnj.org), the RHS Director of Bands, Mrs. Dawn Russo (drusso@rtnj.org), or any other Randolph Band Teacher.
